Caritas- ENG. [kah-ri-tahs] Latin  for “Charity”

 

MYSTIC KREWE OF CARITAS is proud to announce the second annual Mr. and Ms. Caritas pageant to be held Sunday, October 25, 2009, at 9p.m. Contestants must be at the host venue (the Quest Club) no later than 8p.m. Unlike in the previous year, this year’s competition is open to male competitors alone, (all contestants must have been born male). However, in the late winter/early spring we will feature a pageant exclusively geared for contestants born female, the  Ms. and Ms-Her Caritas pageant.

 

The mission of MKC is to provide AIDS education to the community and financial support to AIDS Alabama through fundraising and wish-list drives. As a representative of the krewe, you will serve as a representative of our organization at community events and benefits, We expect nothing but professionalism and a positive member from our representatives. We encourage you to sit in on our monthly meetings and be a positive, active member or our krewe.

 

Contestant Rules and Regulations

 

All contestants must be 18 years of age or older prior to the date of the pageant and must be able to show proof by state/government issued identification.

Contestants are to be present at the Quest Club no later than 8p.m.with music and entry fee ready to be turned in to the pageant facilitators. Failure to be present at registration by 8p.m. will result in a ten (10) point deduction from the final cumulative score.

The entry fee for the pageant is $50 (non-refundable) payable in cash or money order only. Money orders should be made out to Mystic Krewe of Caritas.

Any contestant, contestant helper, or backup dancer caught in the act of violating any Alabama law (drug use, underage drinking theft, destruction of property, etc.) will be immediately disqualified from the pageant and removed from the premises.

Contestants are responsible for their own belongings and cannot hold MKC nor the Quest Club (and its personnel) liable for any belonging that are found to be missing.

One dresser is allowed for each contestant. Only one person may be in the dressing area with the contestant at any given time, except for a short period of time before talent so that dancers/backups have time to dress.

Acts involving fire, water, excessive glitter, or any material/medium that can be harmful to any other contestant, judge, audience member, or personnel of the Quest Club are strictly prohibited. If you have any act that you find questionable, please ask a MKC member to receive permission prior to the pageant.

All props must be removed from the pageant immediately following the pageant, or will otherwise be broken down and discarded.

Score sheets will be mailed to the contestants following the pageant.

In the event of a tie, the contestants will be given an additional question and scored on the answer.

Category Break Down and Descriptions

 

PRESENTATION: “Gods and Goddesses” (3 minute time limit)…………….. 50 points

Be creative! You may take theme and represent it in any way you may choose that portrays the theme. Keep in mind presentation is meant to present who you are to the judges, so use your time wisely. The only set requirement during presentation is for you to represent the theme and state your name and contestant number to the judges. There will be house music provided for presentation; however, it is highly recommended that you supply your own music on it own labeled music cd. Please advise a pageant administrator at the start of the pageant whether you will require a lighting blackout and/or setup time.

 

Formal Wear………………………..40 points

Contestants will model their choice of garment that should reflect what would be worn to a formal event. A full length evening gown is required for all Miss contestants and a formal suit or tuxedo is required for all contestants competing in the Mister division.

 

Question and Answer………30 points

After modeling formal wear each contestant will be given a question, at which he/she will be given the opportunity to answer. The judges will be looking for overall confidence, clarity, and ability to speak.

 

Talent……………………… 80 points

Props and dancers are permitted and if setup time is needed, please advise the pageant facilitators beforehand. Stripping is not considered an appropriate act for talent and will not be allowed. If you have any question regarding whether a talent would be deemed inappropriate, contact a pageant administrator before the date of the pageant.

 

*Failure to not be ready at the calling of your name for any category will result in a 5 point deduction of your cumulative for that category.

 

**The judges panel will consist of 5 members and the highest and lowest score for each category will be dropped for each contestant.

 

 

The winners of Mr. and Ms. Caritas will receive:

$350 prize ($200 at crowning, $50 at MKC Bal Masque II, $50 at Gay Pride 2010,      $50 at MKC 2010 pageant)

Ms. Caritas will receive a crown. Mr. Caritas will receive a medallion.

Other prizes/awards may come available as sponsorship for the pageant increases.
